| The
mentoring way...
In many native traditions, mentoring is part of everyday life.
Each person in the family, extended family and village community
would be present and supportive with an attitude of mentoring
for youth coming of age. The "elder" community would
be greatly respected and utilized for the wisdom they offer.
Living
close to the Earth
and holding a deep reverence and awareness of our connection
to the rhythms and cycles of Nature would be a part of elder
wisdom from most indigenous native traditions (as we understand
them today). Rites of passage would be integrated into the whole
community.
We
are fortunate
to still have among us some of the teachings and elders of mentoring
traditions. We are also still able to find places in Nature
where we can immerse ourselves in an outdoor experience. Wilderness
mentoring includes building survival skills, awareness and understanding
of habitat and wildlife, how the Moon affects all life and especially
women's cycles, etc. It's also about honoring and keeping the
ancient wisdom gained from mentors and the world around us.
Girls
Want To Have Fun!
It is an attitude and, for many, a sacred connection to the
world around us... stone, bird, river, neighbor and all beings
and things on this planet. AND it's the beauty and joy in the
moment as we take the time to breathe and play and just be with
our Mother Earth and each other.
